Natural Antimicrobial Nano Composite Fibres Manufactured from a Combination of Alginate and Oregano Essential Oil

Alginate is a linear biodegradable polysaccharide polymer, which bio-renewable and widely used for various biomedical applications. For the next generation of medical textiles, alginate nanofibres are desirable their use in wound dressings that biocompatible, sustainable, abundantly available. This study has developed unique manufacturing process producing with exceptional antimicrobial properties oregano essential oil (OEO) as natural agent. OEO varying degrees concentration was incorporated an aqueous solution. Appropriate materials electrospinning parameter selection allowed us to manufacture fibres range diameters between 38 105 nm. A crosslinking using extended water soaking developed. Mechanical characterisation micro-mechanical testing nonwoven electrospun alginate/oregano composite revealed it durable. An extensive carried out on Gram-positive (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Listeria monocytogenes) Gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae Salmonella enterica), common food pathogens. The results indicated increasing from 2 3 wt % showed improved activity against all pathogens, significantly MRSA compared non-alginate-based control disk containing OEO. Therefore, our research suggests all-natural nanofibre textiles offer new advanced dressing technology well packaging
